Terms of use, in plain words
Who we are
Northstep is a phone-first web app at northstepagent.com that helps life insurance agents and their leaders keep track of prospects, follow-ups, a schedule, promotion targets, lessons and team progress. Northstep is run by Kenechi Uzor, doing business as Northstep ("we", "us"). [Legal entity name and state]
By creating an account or using Northstep, you agree to these terms and to our privacy page. If you don't agree, please don't use Northstep.
Who can use Northstep
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Northstep is for licensed life insurance agents, people working toward a license, and the leaders who support them, in the United States.
- Use your real name and an email address you control. One account per person.
- Keep your password private and don't share your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password and email us right away.
Your data is yours
What you enter in Northstep belongs to you. We use it only to run Northstep for you, as described on our privacy page. We don't sell it or use it for advertising.
- You can download your data or delete your account at any time from your Account page.
- If you join a team, your leader sees your progress only: your level, progress toward your next level, activity counts and lessons finished. Your leader never sees your prospects, notes, materials, income goal or private files.
- If you leave a team, you keep everything you entered.
You give us permission to store, process and display your data only as needed to provide Northstep to you and to the people you choose to share progress with.
What you must not put in Northstep
Never enter Social Security numbers, health information, insurance policy details, or bank or card numbers, for yourself or anyone else. Northstep tries to block common formats of these numbers, but that check can miss things, so please don't rely on it.
When you use Northstep, you agree to:
- Add only people you have a real reason to contact, and respect anyone who asks you to stop contacting them.
- Not use Northstep for spam or mass messaging. Northstep drafts messages; you send them yourself, one person at a time.
- Follow your company's rules and the laws that apply to you, including rules about calls, texts and email such as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the CAN-SPAM Act, and do-not-call rules.
- Not upload anything unlawful, harmful, misleading, or that you don't have the right to share.
- Not try to break, overload, reverse-engineer or get around the security of Northstep, or access anyone else's account or data.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
Not advice, and not your company
- Northstep does not give legal, tax, financial, insurance or compliance advice.
- Lessons, news and learning content are general education. They are not your company's training and don't replace it.
- Promotion targets and company rules in Northstep ("rule packs") come from published sources with a date. They may be incomplete or out of date. Always confirm requirements with your company or upline.
- Northstep is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any insurance company, marketing organization or agency.
Materials and the compliance checker
Northstep can help you draft materials and check text before you share it. The checker looks for words and phrases that often cause problems. It can't catch everything, and passing it does not mean your company or a regulator will approve your material.
Anything you plan to share publicly (posts, flyers, websites, ads) must be approved by your company under its rules before you use it. You are responsible for what you share.
Links and content from other sites
News, events and learning items in Northstep link to other websites. We choose sources with care, but we don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices.
AI features
AI drafts and practice conversations are optional. When you use them, what you type for that request is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to write a reply. AI can be wrong, incomplete or sound more certain than it should. Read and edit anything AI writes before you use it. Don't enter private details about other people in AI requests.
Payments
Northstep is free during early access. If we start paid plans, we'll tell you the price and what's included before we charge you anything, and you can choose not to continue.
Availability and changes to Northstep
We work to keep Northstep running and your data safe, but it may sometimes be slow, unavailable or have errors. We may add, change or remove features. If we plan to shut Northstep down, we'll give you reasonable notice so you can download your data.
Ending your account
You can stop using Northstep and delete your account at any time from your Account page. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or if we need to for legal or security reasons. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to download your data first.
Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, Northstep is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including warranties that it will be error-free, always available, or fit for a particular purpose. We don't promise any results from using Northstep, including sales, recruiting, promotions or income.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, lost business or lost data, arising from your use of Northstep. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about Northstep is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable losses if a claim against us is caused by content you entered or by your breaking these terms or the law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [State], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. [Venue and dispute resolution terms for legal review.]
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is important, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using Northstep after a change takes effect, the new terms apply.
